Benefits of a computer network  ; Types types of computer network
In general , computer network can be distinguished five types consiting of  :

A. LAN (Local Area Network)

Local Area Network (LAN) is a privately owned network within a builid or campus-sized to several kilometers.LAN is often used to connect personal computers and workstations in company offices or factories in order to use shared resources (eg,printer, scanner) and exchange information. LAN can be
distinguished from other types of network by three characteritics : size, transmission technology and topology.
LAN has a finie size, which means that the transmission time in the worst condition are limited and causing the possibility use a parti cular design type. By knowing its limitations, leading to the possibility to use a parti cural design type. It also eases network management.

LAN transmission technology often uses a single cable. Traditional LAN operates at speeds ranging from 10 to 100 Mbps (mega bits/sec) with low delay (tens of micro secind) and has a small error factor. Modem LANs can operate at higher speeds,up to hundreds of megabith/sec.

B. MAN (Metropolitan Area Network)

Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) is basically a LAN version is larger and usually use the same technology to the LAN. MAN may include corporate offices are adjacent and can be used for personal purposes (private) or public. MAN is usually capable of supporting both voice and data, and data, and can even relate to cable television network. MAN just have a cable or two and to not have a switching element, which serves to and regulate the output packets through multiple cable. The existence of switching element to make the desaign simpler.

The main reason to separate the MAN as it determines a specific category is already the MAN, and the standard is now being implemented. Standard is called the DQDB (Distributed Queue Dual Bus) or IEEE 802.6 standard by.DQDB consists of two inidirectional wires where all computers are connected,as shown in Figure 1.2.Each bus has a head-end,the device to start transmitting activity. Computer traffic going in the right side of the sender uses the top of the bus. Traffic using the bus to the left under.

C. WAN (Wide Area Network)

Wide Area Network (WAN) covers a wide geographical area, often covering a country or continent.WAN conists of a collection of machines that aim to carry out the application programs.

We will follow the traditional use and refer to these machines as the host. The term end system is someting also used in the literature. Hosts connected by a communication subnet,or simply called a subnet. Subnet is the task of bringing a message from host to another host, such as telephone systems that bring the content of the conversation from speaker to listener. By separating the pure communication aspects of a network (subnet) of the aspects of the application (host),a complete network design becomes much simpler.
In most of the WAN,subnet consists of two components, namely the transmission cable (also called a circuit, channel,or trunk) move bits from one machine to another.

Switching element is a specialized computer that is used to connect two or more transmission wires. When the data up to a cable recevier, the swicthing element must select the sender wire to forward those messages. Unfortunately there is no stantard terminology in the computer name like this. His name is highly variable called packet swithing node, intermidiate system, the data swithing exchange and so on.

D. Wireless Network

Mobile computers such as netbook computers and personal digital assistant (PDA),a branch of the computer industry's most rapid growth. Many types of computer owners who actually have desktop machines installed on the LAN or WAN,but because it is not possible cable connections are made in the car or plane,so many are interested to have a computer with this wireless network.

Wireless network has many benefitfs, which have been commonly known is the portable office. People who are on their way often want to use his portable electronic devices to send or receive a telephone,fax,e-mail,read fail remotely log info the remote machine, and so on and also want to do these things anywhere, land, sea, air.

E. Internet

Actually there are many in this world networks, often using hardware and software that is different. People who are connected to the network are hoping to be able to communicate with others connected to other networks. Desired such as these require a relationship between network that are often not kampatibel and different. Usually to engage and perform the necessary translation, both hardware and software, A collection of interconneted network is called the internet.
